1968 - Andrews Wins Small Swims

BURNET - Andrews swept both the girls and boys division in class AAA for the overall team title of the third annual small school swimming championships here Saturday.

Andrews collected 136 in girls swimming and 106 in boys.

Burnet captured both AA titles while Del Valle placed third in girls AA and Texas School for the Blind of Austin second in girls private school competition.

2010 - Dallas Jesuit state champ in shootout

GEORGETOWN -- Dallas Jesuit beat Houston Strake Jesuit in a 1-0 shootout to win the UIL Class 5A boys finals and become the first private school to win a UIL soccer championship.

Dallas Jesuit (25-0), ranked No. 1 nationally, won when goalie Ryan Aubrey denied all four shootout attempts by Strake Jesuit (27-1-1).  Aubrey blocked two shots outright, and Strake Jesuit had a shot go wide off the post and another high over the net.

In the shootout, David Reilly and Hansel Reyes converted their attempts for the Rangers.

Both schools joined the UIL in 2003.

1949 - 12th annual Texas State HS Swimming Meet

College Station, Texas (AP) - Highland Park of Dallas placed in all events of the 12th annual Texas high school state swimming meet to edge defending champion Lamar of Houston, 50 to 45, for the team title.

1964 - 11th annual Texas State HS XC Championship

Cross Country Crown Won By McCamey

AUSTIN (AP) - Falfurrias runner Robert Gonzales set an overall state record of 9:28.3 in the 11th annual University of Texas State High School Cross Country Championship Saturday.

Gonzales' time in the 2-mile run was the best in Class AAA competition.  Winners of other division were Mike Wilson of Houston Bellaire, AAAA, with 9:40.0; Elezar Lucio, Del Valle, AA, with 10:16.6; and John Fisher, Pettus, with 10:14.0 in Class A.

School winners were El Paso Burges, AAAA; Richardson Lake Highlands, AAA; McCamey, AA; and Cullen Junior High in A.

Four McCamey runners finished in the top ten in Class AA.  Rudy Montez was second, Paul Godwin No. 4, Arthur Mendoza No. 5 and Johnny Molina No. 8.

New state officers were named for the U.S. Track and Field Federation in activities held during the meet.  Jack Patterson of Texas was named to succeed John Morriss of the University of Houston as president.  Vice presidents are Monroe Northcutt of Victoria Junior College and Ty Terrell of Lamar Tech.
